More Kid Quotes

On Tuesday, one of the kindergarteners threw up in the middle of the a.m. teacher's class while I was helping in there. After she took him up to the office, one of the other little girls came up to me with an ultra-concerned/confused look on her face, and asked:

"Why did Ayden throw up from his neck like that??"

I'm not sure whether she just refers to it as "throwing up from the neck" in general, or if she's never seen a kid throw up before and that's what she thought she saw, or what, but it cracked me up. I forgot to tell my partner about it, so I sent her a text that evening, and she wrote back:

"You should have told her that Ayden is part Pez."

Funniest. Response. Ever.

At a restaurant, after we got seated and the waitress walked over:

Cubby: "Hi! Can you bring us some num-nums, pweeze?"

She also orders her own food and drinks now, and thanks to Dora, says, "Gracias!" whenever we leave a store checkout. Show-off.

While changing Cubby's diaper first thing in the morning:

Cubby: "Mommy, can you watch Doe-wa [Dora]?"
Me: "Maybe later, Sweetie. First we need to get breakfast."
Cubby: "THEN you can watch Doe-wa."
Me: "Well, maybe later on. Pretty soon, we need to wake Daddy up!"
Cubby: "Maybe DADDY will let you watch Doe-wa!"

There's no distracting a toddler with a one-track mind.

Cubby (yelling in the car): "Be careful, Daddy!"
Bear: "Yep, Daddy is driving careful."
Cubby: "Be careful, Mommy and Daddy!...Slow down, Daddy! SLOW DOWN!"

Cubby has backseat driving in her blood. Luckily for Bear, it skipped me!

Me (while watching--what else?--Dora with Cubby): "Awww, that fishy is feeling sad because he's lost!"

Cubby (puckers up her bottom lip as tears start rolling down her face): "That's okay, fishy! Dora and Boots will help you!"

Apparently she has also inherited the Softie Gene from Grammy and Aunt Jen. Poor Cub! Remind me never to point out sadness in cartoon animals again.

You'd think we let her watch Dora nonstop, all day, every day, because the child is a walking episode of that show. Randomly throughout the day, or when laying in her crib when she's supposed to be napping, she says things like:

• "Let's stop and think!"
• "Do you see a Christmas tree? [excruciatingly long pause, just like on Dora] Right, aqui esta!"
• "I have something in my backpack that can get Baby Crab out of the net!" (This is an awesome non-sequitur for every occasion.)

By the way, Bear thinks that show would get a whole lot more interesting if Swiper swiped Map.
