One-of-us! One-of-us! One-of-us!

My heart grew three sizes yesterday. My daughter, the Big Girl, is a movie-lover!

Kiwi was so excited to go to her first movie in the theater, but really had no idea what to expect: before we left, she'd say things like, "And there's gonna be crowns on the chairs..." and when we were in the concession line, she thought the little TV screen near the menu was the gigantic one we'd been telling her about. She was so, so stinking cute.

We let her pick out her own candy, so she got Red Vines and a Dove chocolate bar (hey, she's in the 40th percentile for weight--she can afford to indulge now and then!), and decided to partake of some popcorn for the first time, too. Here she is, chillin' with her 3D glasses before the movie started:

I really wish I could've gotten a video of her leaning in for a drink of Bear's soda. As Bear describes it, "It was like the straw wanted a peck, and she went in for a French kiss." Keeping her eyes glued to the screen, she'd just sort of lean over, open her mouth, and feel around with her tongue for a good 10 seconds until she located the straw and started to drink. Hilarious.

Bear took her down by the screen for a "look how tiny our little girl is" shot:
My mild concerns over whether she'd have trouble sitting still or being quiet were all, as Joey would say, "moo," because she perched literally on the edge of her seat and watched like...well...a Big Girl. She's seen both Toy Story movies on DVD many times, but she still started grinning from ear to ear when Buzz made his first appearance. Again, so stinking cute I could hardly stand it.

"He's coming toward us, Mommy!"

Right around the part near the end where Buzz tries to fly out of Sid's house, falls, and breaks his arm, Kiwi started getting a little weepy and told me, with her voice cracking, that she was "ready to go ho-ome now." We held her off for a few minutes, but ended up leaving maybe 5-10 minutes early. It was actually a double feature, but I think expecting a 3-year-old to sit still for 3 hours straight would've been a) preposterous and b) disastrous, so all in all, we dropped $36 on tickets and probably another $15 on snacks for one hour of movie. Not cheap, but definitely fun!

  1. Almost sounds like a Mastercard commercial...tickets: $35, snacks: $15, watching Toy Story like a big girl: Priceless
